Sorry for the long absence... if there are anyone who actually reads this (I'm more or less writing this to myself for now, to remind me that I have to be a good girl and stick to design). I am currently on my latest adventure in South America, to visit my boyfriend and his family. More precisely; in Paraguay. To be honest I still don't know much about this country, other than it's wild and noisy, alive and colourful. Design-wise I've seen a lot of horrible sexism in the comercials, and the designs of logos and packaging and flyers and stuff has a handful of tackiness to it as well. But what makes me really inspired in this place is the fact that everything seems handmade. The local stores and shops, the minimarkets, the gas-stations. Everything is written by hand onto a board or directly onto the wall. Some places, for instance where you can learn tai-kwando, has even got a big illustration next to the entrance. They are pretty badly drawn, but in my eyes that is extremely charmy and it really makes me want to take tai-kwando classes.
Everything is painted here. In the city, almost all the shops has their own colour. The public busses are pimped with typography and colour and slogans such as "Jesus loves you" (but in spanish of course). Add some latino rythms and the shadows of amazingly green and enormous trees, and there you have it - Paraguay!
In my head I had to work hour by hour, doing one drawing an hour. My vision involves sooo many drawings. But this motherf*cker put an end to that plan. I'm now completely stressed up and conviced that I will have to stay up until the last hour to be able to pull this out. I hope not... but it's very probable.
There's no time to waste. Just do, do, do something! Kick your own ass! Invest in strong coffee and Red Bull. Don't rest until it's all finished! There's no fucking time to waste!
This is where I'm at right now. I don't know... feels like I'm spinning way off my target. Or maybe I'm moving towards a really abstract place where it all makes sence... When it comes to graphic design you never know. I'm really happy with the 7-eye logo though. That one was a complete happy accident.
Right now my head is all in space. Literally. I'm soaking up everything I can find about the moon and the sun and the planets. Did you know that Jupiter don't actually have a solid surface, for instance. I'm almost surrendering my fear for being an austronaut, just imagine how cool it would be to walk on Mars! Anyway, this research is suppose to be a tv channel in the end. And for the first time in I don't know how long, it feels inspiring and fun.
Talking about inspiration. I've found some cool sites by really creative and fun people. Like the Swedish design collective Ful Design. http://www.fuldesign.se Check it out!
I'm Stina and this is my design blogg. This is pretty much my desperate last try to find motivation about design again. I need something positive in my life right now, in my creative life, since my school sucks ass. So I figured I'd create a blogg about the ups and downs in design and share it all with you guys. In design it's all about personality and communication. So communicating about my creative personality is perhaps not too bad.
Enough about that.
I am a Swedish 22 year old who specialize in Graphic Design and illustration. I'm doing my 2nd year at University of Cumbria in Carlisle, England. Coming from one country to another is almost like coming to a deserted island. You have your safe things with you (just like things from a shipwreck) that makes you feel at home or remind you about who you are. You have your little world in the middle of a strange new ocean. At first you're kinda scared, but when you get to know the resources and nice fruits on your island - then you're king!
Hmm... basically, I will tend to be a little mixed here. I am Swedish and will sometimes use my native language when English isn't enough (for instance we have a word called "fika" which means having a coffee/tea/whatever-you-wanna-drink break with sweet cockies or things. Swedish is the only language that have a direct word for that). See this blogg as an oportunity to learn some Swedish words (I know that a lot of guys wants to impress Swedish girls. This is your chance!). Anyway... my main language here will, however, be English so that as many as possible will be able to understand.
Enough about that. I have to go and get some stuff done now.
